here's what fixed my problem

i thought i'd post a reply after gleaning soo much info from others and share the solution that fixed my problem, this may be long winded but hope it helps someone else stay away from the bean stealers

i was having problems after cruising at a steady speed, when i eased off the accelerator and then apllied it again there would be nothing there, no matter how hard i pressed it the revs would not go up until the speed and revs dropped to 50mph or 2400rpm

had a read on here and thought it could be the crankcase breather filter as it had never been changed, changed that and the first day after things seemed better, then the problem got alot worse, but after about 1000miles it went away completly, thought maybe there was some sludge that had moved and i had fixed it, hooray

but after another 2000miles the problem came back, and this time much much worse, when parked up and not in gear the car wouldn't rev above 2400rpm and even then it felt as if something was about to blow as if there was too much pressure, this got worse over 2 days to the extent that the car would not rev above 1500rpm with parked up and pulling away in 1st was neally impossible, but if you knocked it into 2nd you could pull away and go though all the gears up to 70-80 no problem with the turbo running smooth

tried disconnecting the MAF, problem got worse, tried the injectors one at a time, tick over got worse each time, time for help

took it to an independent in Saxmundham, had a good look under the bonnet, talked about the turbo blades and then i started the engine and they noticed the large hose on the front left of the engine was being sucked in on it's self, traced through the hoses and found that the inner wall of the last rubber hose that goes to the turbo had come away and was creating a complete blockage, changed this for £58 and all was aok

i'm sure by reading the other treads that if i had taken it to the franchise they would have replaced the fuel pumps and turbo or just have said it show no fault codes and sent me on my way

i hope this helps others and thanks all for your info

This is a common problem and has been mentioned many times on this group, a check can be made by squeezing the hose by hand, if its very soft make sure it's replaced. I replaced mine at 5 years / 40k miles, they were still serviceable.

Brilliant write up of symptoms/ diagnosis and eventual fix. This thread will be great for folks doing a search re: power loss problems etc.

Many thanks. D..
