can the tappets be adjusted on the diesel p38 range rovers or are they hydrolic and need to be replaced cannot seem to find the answer on the rave manual

I know I'm a **** taker - but the clue is the numerous mentions of the word "hydraulic tappet" in the diesel section of RAVE.

Not joking, the zx1 works treat for noisy tappets, pour whole lot in, run for few hundred miles before changing oil, well it worked for my old car, v8 though
Most important is getting up to high temp for quite a while a few times, then leave or dump, I prefer changing oil

Noisy tappets on BMW engines can be quietened down by extended (four or five) minutes runs at highish RPM. But you may blow your engine up.

right folks i have managed after much searching to get 2 new tappets the question is now how hard are they to fit i had a look at rave and it didnt say much about it

Special tool to retract tensioner, pin to hold it retracted, cam shaft position gauge, crank locking pin. Lock engine at TDC number one firing. Remove cam cover and cam shaft, remove duff tappets, lubricate and fit new tappets, lubricate and re fit camshaft in correct orientation, tighten cap nuts progressively and evenly, torque up, lock cam in position using tool, see RAVE for feelers needed to allow for chain stretch, refit cam sprocket, release tensioner, torque up and angle tighten. Refit cam cover, remove engine lock pin. That should do it.

started to strip off the bits ready to do the tappets but cannot work out what size and type socket that i need for the cam sprocket its a bit gnarled up and i dare not try anything but the proper socket that i need
