Tailgate Window

Hi, i know this has been covered & believe me i have trawled thru the search threads & prob read them all BUT still no joy

The rear window is not dropping down enough to allow the tailgate door to open....it drops a bit tho....works fine with the internal switch. Stripped it down today & checked the wire cables, they look fine & tight, stripped the handle down....one of the tiny springs was broken & i fixed that, checked all the wiring etc & all seems fine. Tried lubricating the runners for the window, even the door seals & also disconnected the battery to reset BUT STILL NOT WORKING

You can hear the micro switches clicking away but i'm sure they would still click if they were faulty??

As the window drops a little would this not rule out an electrical fault.....???

I'll point out the obvious, but have you re calibrated the rear window? Loads of posts on here how to do it if not.

Could be that the window motor gearing is worn creating excessive "Backlash" or play in the mechanism.
I have a similar problem, try placing your hand flat on the glass after operating the handle and see if it will drop clear.
You can also check the pressure of the glass on the rubber seal as this can be adjusted by the two screws (One on each guide rail, at the bottom) and there should be approx. 1mm deflection on the rubber window seal when the window is closed (See RAVE).
My motor mechanism is worn and has Backlash, luckily I have obtained a spare motor which has none but I have to get round to fitting it.
The window opening distance is electrically controlled by the CCU which sends a 200 millisecond pulse to the motor-signalled by the handle switch. This pulse is non adjustable and programmed into the CCU.

Hi, thanks for the replies....i thought just disconnecting the battery for 10 mins was meant to recalibrate the window??

Cant understand why it worked perfectly one minute then not 10 mins later.....will look into recalibrating issue more....cheers

Yep...same problem here....very intermittent...window drops but not enough to clear, hence back door wont open.

My temporary workaround (which seems to work every time) is to drop the rear window using the key fob, then use the key in the lock to raise the window up again, and voila...the rear door opens fine.

I then load the shopping/pushchair etc etc in, drive home and when I get home, it's a 50/50 as to whether the rear door will open first time using the handle, or whether I have to use my workaround again.

If I put my hand on the window when using the handle, it does drop a little more and clear of the surround, but the door doesn't open.

I've assumed that because it is intermittent, it must be mechanical (temp changes? weather changes?) so intend to take the rear door card off and have a look...have read elsewhere that it could be a lose cable.

(BTW, have tried the various recalibrate techniques, and none have worked, the only fix is my workaround of dropping the window/closing the window using the key fob/key in door method).

If anyone knows of anything else I could try, I'd love to know as it's driving us crazy at the moment!!

I think it's cable stretch for most of these issues if the reset doesn't clear the problem.

I hope so. Although that wouldn't necessarily explain the intermittentness of the problem (or would it?).

I did read elsewhere that someone used a cheap bike brake cable tensioner to fix theirs, so if mine feels slack I'll try that route...otherwise it's onto that well known internet auction site to look for a new regulator kit.

And if that doesn't work, it's on to a well known 2nd hand car site to look for an FL2 to replace the FL1 (or is that using a sledgehammer to crack a nut?!!).

I put a post up a couple of weeks back, as my rear window had stopped working, wont work on internal switches,key fob or handle, got it to drop a few mil and prised the plastic top strip up enough to open the door, had been told by previous owner it had failed before in wet weather, and once dry it would be ok, tried using a heat gun inside panels but no joy, then by chance found the door would shut with the raised glass on the outside of channel, ok its not great, but it saves me worrying about it at the moment, it lets in a small amount of water if it rains, but I can live with that
