Tail door of Freelander does not open

Could someone advise on my tail door problem?
The tail door of my Freelander refuses to open. The glass moves when pulling the handle but the lock doesn't open.
I am desperate. We don't have a dealer in the country and we must rely on local garagists.
Most probably something is wrong with the latch.

1. How do I check out the electrical connections of the latch?
2. How do I open the inside door panel without destroying it?
3. Is there a way to open the latch manually when the window is rolled down?

Please help.

Hi Earthling. . . .go into search bin loads written on this, its a crap design ,if yours is the removable roof model there's a switch [in roof area ] that has to be made and this can be a problem sometimes. . .best oh luck
