Tacho Problem

Does anyone know where the tacho gauge is fed from on a 300tdi?? Is it the alternator. Tacho stopped working after i had a new one fitted and 2 months ago.

Yes your Tacho is fed by the small white wire on the back of your alternator.

There should be 3 Wires,
1 (Brown) thick charging Cable to the Battery via charging circuit fuse.
2 (brown and yellow) Thin wire to the Charge warning light in the Dash

and lastly
3 (White) Thin wire, which is the feed to your Tacho, via the Feed Tap Resistor

It does help thanks, But my new alternator hasnt got 3 wires out, can i hook it up somewhere else?

Did the Old one have 3 wires?

Has the speedo worked at all since you had the new alternator fitted?

You could always follow the White and Grey wire from the Tacho!

It was a while ago now so i cant remember the wiring of the old one. I think it did.

And thats a big job following the wire.

My guess is that it hasn't.

I think you have the wrong alternator fitted, unless there is another way of getting engine RPM from elsewhere!

Sounds to me like they have given you the wrong unit.

Is there anywhere else to get a RPM From?
