Gents I bought another p38 a few weeks ago and have been transfering bits onto my old girl - car not the mrs - question can I swap the gems chip from the newly bought to the old both are 4.6 gems same year reason is when I drove the new one it was more responsive has a virtually new engine so have lifted engine out and it is not quite so perky and mine has at some time been chipped as the chip is blank no Gems stamp on it so is it a straight swap or will I lose synch etc.??

Swap the whole ECU and get someone to re-sync it with your BECM.

The GEMS should resync with the Becm as it looks for any EMS code between 0 and 65535 unlike the THOR and Bosch (Diesel) which has a unique 4 digit code which must match the corresponding code in the Becm. If it doesn't automatically resynch you will need either a GEMS synchmate , Faultmate/Nanocom etc. to prod it into action. Once sync'd it will be o.k.
