If I strip my V8 down to the chassis and have it cleaned and treated could I have it re stamped to go into a 300tdi?

Insurance is retarded if I swap my V8 out for a diesel engine! there's a 300tdi that's been used as a family road car but the chassis has snapped on it so they are selling as scrap metal I was thinking of buying it and putting the chassis off my disco in there! But I want to register it as a 300tdi not a V8 with conversion!
so you change engine numbers with dvla

Officially no, you can't re-use a second hand chassis. Unofficially... Ethically I see no problem.

what Fanny said buy the scrapper swap everything onto your chassis then register a change of engine.

With body on frame vehicles like Fenders and Disco's the I.D. stays with the chassis.
You could put a good body/interior from another car on your good chassis and it would retain the chassis VIN/reg' number. similarly you could fit a different engine, petrol, diesel, V8 or whatever and the car still retains its VIN/reg' number.
The upshot of all this is you don't need to do anything with your chassis VIN etc as long as all the bits are from the same type of car i.e. all the bits come from a Disco'1 or whatever. Fit the good bits from the donor and tell the DVLA about the engine swap, your insurance company won't care as long as you declare the correct engine.

It's only engine that's a bit of a lemon! Keeps breaking things so I am going to try a diesel I had a look at a couple of possible replacements and they just don't feel right! Too small to weak too ****! I think I need to have a LR worst car I've owned and I can't replace it
