Hi i own a 1990 defender fitted with a discovery 200Tdi. I am having problems with large amounts of sump pressure so much so that the oil is pushed through the dipstick. I have just fitted a new headgasket to relieve some of the existing problems. Aswell as this sump pressure the exhaust seems to be sucking in as much as it is blowing out. If someone could shed some light on the problems it would be great. Otherwise i will be looking for a new engine.cheers

Crankcase pressurisation caused by

1 Worn Piston rings or
2 Blocked crankcase breather or
3 the oil pickup in the sump has a metal mesh cover on it and this
becomes clogged. and needs clearing, check in 3 then 2 then 1, get a compression test done before you start ripping the engine to bit's
