My Hippo diesel (L series not TD4) has a strange starting problem!
It seems to let air in after an hour or so after turning off the engine and then when I start it again it starts like it has run out of fuel (rough as hell for a few seconds then ok). Checked all the usual suspects (timing, fuel lines, new bleed off pipes, new primer, new fuel filter), but.
If, just before turning the engine off I give the engine a blip of throttle and turn off smartly, then the engine will restart normally days later with no missing or coughing?
I can't get my head around why that could be, all I can come up with is an injector which stays a bit 'open' when not under pressure. Is that possible?
