Hi all,

Scratching my head again (surprise, surprise). As I've now started to tear down my interior, I've come across what I presume is a previous owner bodge. 2 core and earth has been run down the right hand side above the interior trim, and terminated with a spade connector on the rear door switch. i assume that this is spliced into the driver (RHS) door switch cable, so that the rear safari door causes both the front and rear lights to earth out (and so come on).

What I' trying to figure out is why this was done in the first place?!

What's the stock configuration for a Defender 2001 SW? Does it have two interior lights, like mine. Or was the second rear light added later on? If its stock, where *should* the wiring connect from the rear door switch? The loom to the rear bottom RHS, or is it suppoesd to run directly up behind the headlining?

I was under the impression that the rear safari door switch would connect into the loom at the RHS rear (and indeed there is a (thin) purple cable there with a bulllet connector - but thats not live, and earthing it out doesn't trigger any lights). I've seen some suggestions that this is a aux power, but I've verified none of my fuses are out, and its not live. Any ideas what that is for?

Once again, all help appreciated!

Doug

Thanks - this is super useful. For those reading this in the future, I managed to find the electrical schematics listed here. They also have Series manuals and schematics. I found it quite useful to use LR workshop to trace back the connectors like this - just pop in the connectors leading back from the point of interest, and you get a series of pictures of the connectors and their location. Useful!

Update on my wiring - turns out the 2 core and earth was a red herring. I believe it is part of a badly executed alarm installation, whereby the cable tapped into the door switches. I've begun to unravel that now, but will need to wait for the dash to come off before finishing up.

My only final question remains about the powered accessory socket at the back. According to diagram below, Its looks like I should get a 12v feed from c0350 (which is a bullet connector in my case). I do have this available (the tow bar connector is fitted and I can physically get to it), but I' only getting .5V over it. Any ideas?

Update on this suspected aux power (c0350). Seems to switch live (7v) with the fog light.

I've defintely got this configuration (picture below):

I've just checked the tow bar, which I believe connects in with C1260 -- all looks functional. Can anybody shed any light as to what these bullet connectors are?

To be honest, I'lll probably just leave this can of worms as everything is functional. It 'd be easier to work out what's going in if I pull the whole lot out, but quite a bit of it has been pulled up into the cab behind the light - sounds like a job for another time.
