ive been driving my landy for 2 days now, the steering feels abit funny (maybe because ive never drove a landt before) but it kind of feels "loose" like i could turn the steering wheel side to side a fair bit without the wheels actually turning (like its got abit of play) it might be just me, not 100% Sure.

just wondering basically if there is any thing that could of wore or need tightening up, or is it just normal?

Sounds fairly normal. But you can check all the balljoints and linkages for wear and tighten the steering box bolt up which will take out some of the play but will also make it harder to turn and prevent it self centring, if you overtighten it.

i can only comment on a Td5 and a SIII.

On Td5. Not supposed to be like that. usually mean something is loose in the linkage or the balljoints are going to call it quits.

On a SIII, it's supposed to be about 1.5" of free play before the wheels will start to turn. so it's correct.

sounds like the knuckle joints to me, is there play in the steering? ie the wheel moves very loose side to side before it stiffens and turns the wheel?

if so try this. get a friend to wobblw the steering wheel left to right just on the edges of the play. get under the bonnet and check each joint (2 of them) by grabbing each side to see if you can feel one half of the joint turning without the other side moving. they are an easy job to replace (about 10 quid each and 10 mins)

if the vehicle just feels a bit slow to respond to steering input then its all part of driving a vehicle with high sidewall tyres i'm afraid

paddocks/craddocks will do it, but make sure there actually is a fault before you go changing things

and make sure yer tyres are at the right pressures
