Tightened steering belt to eliminate squeak and it has done just that it has also made my steering a hell of a lot tighter

Is this normal? Can the belt be too tight?

It was really heavy and a bad squeak before....

tighter? less heavy I undertstand, if the belt was squeeking it was probably slipping and not driving the PAS properly.

Loosen the belt and check for lift in the pas pump pulley, Ive had two collapse on me in 3 years, its a **** design as theres a sealed bearing behind the pulley and if you do some serious mud plugging sooner or later thats it!
200tdi by the way.

So hearing the results after my minor alterations....there is no reason for concern?
