My stearing column seems to have a bit of up down movement in it, fairly small but the stearing feels crashy and seems to have a lot of vibration. I checked the shaft that comes through the bulk head and there is a little movement in the area where it goes through the bulk head. If i put pressure on the wheal, the vibration and crashy-ness seems to go, so its i think its something to do with play somewhere.

So my question is, is this movement normal? If not is the problem likely to be with the Uj on the bottom of the shaft, or with the stearing column itself? Its not really bad, its just annoying and its been like it for at least 6 months.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers guys

Does the vibration vary with speed or is it fairly constant?

It is unfortunate but the D2 steering box is underneath the battery so checking the column UJs at the end will not be easy.

I would however also check the actually steering box is not loose in anyway.

Nope, only happens over un even ground, or like a join in the motorway etc.

Yeah like i said the play i have found is at the top side as the shaft travels through the bulk head. Just wandering if thats normal or the likely source of the problem. Also as the whole stearing column moves very slightly up and down, i spose this could be the fault??
