Starting Problems

hello

having few problems getting my defender 90 started the terminals on the battery dont look to bad and the little indicator on the batery is showing thats it fully charged but when i go to turn the key it is like the batery is dead jump it fires nice and quick and the next day work fine then one day it wont and have to jump it again it happens randomly any ideas would be great before i go waste money on new battery .

Sounds like a dodgy earth somewhere. Check the Earth strap from the engine to chassis, and the one from the chassis back to the battery terminal.

Check the terminal on the starter of the big wire, make sure its secure and not loose or badly corroded. Do the same for the wires on the battery and as suggested above, the earths.

If you're sure its not the battery, the little indicator thing isn't a very good guage of how much 'uumph' its got left.

Your local guarage should be able to test it (usually for free).

When it does crank does it tire quickly?

check out your starter motor. Mine was doing the same and had to replace it

after checking terminals and earth cinections i decided it must have been the battery.

not bough a bigger one

and all works fine
