Hi everyone,
i have a problem with my P38 -98 GEMS (driven about 206 000km) and i think if someone would help me.

I tell some symptoms, couple of times my range stumb in traffic and if i want to stay engine running i have to press
more gas. If it blow out i started again and engine wake up immediately and engine runs normal.
This not happened next until next day only occassionally long interval.
Some evening it happened again when i was in the parking area and next morning i was going on, start
and engine get running few seconds but then blow out and won`t start again.
Engine cranks and when put the pedal approximately 50% cranking accerelate littlebit and wake feelings that engine
promises but... won`t start.

First i think it is not get sufficiently fuel and install new pump in the tank but...
Next i install new crankshaft position sensor but... won`t start.
Then i loan failure tester my local rover workshop and it tells me -> no fails
I check fuel pressure which is ok (2.3bar), check ignition and spark is ok.
Still feel`s like it is not get fuel.(nozzling timing upset?)
what next?

I think if my ecu is possible broken? can i test this myself somehow? can my local rover workshop test simple ecu?
is it maybe possible that boosted jump start can broke ecu this model (when my starter are getting broke i use booster
to get engine running long time ago)?
is it possible that ignition get upset if ecu is broken?

thanks in advance and sorry my bad english hope you understand my point
regards Rover buff from Finland

If crank sensor fails engine will not even try to start so I think your's is ok. I suspect your problem may be with your mass airflow sensor which is in the cylinder shaped box after the air filter. The easy way to test it is to disconnect it and see if the engine gets worse (bad idle, no power etc). If there is no change then the sensor is already bad. IF it is bad you have to change it. If it is not bad its is a good idea anyway to clean it with an injector or carburetor cleaner spray (do not use electronic contact cleaner spray). Another possibility is the throttle stepper. This can also be easily opened and cleaned with the same product (carburetor spray). Those are jobs I do regularly as part of maintenance but before anything else please check your battery. I used to have a problem similar to yours which stopped when I changed my battery.

if my mass airflow sensor is broken, should this seem failure tester?
i usually cleaned that sensor crc air sensor cleaner, in connection with changed engine oil.
How likely is that becm lose sync when battery is off the vechile?
I dont want to believe that failure due to this cases?
