Hi guys
I'm in the middle of a full 2a swb rebuild with a new galv chassis and just wondered I have the vin plate to fit to the bulkhead but is it still worth stamping the chassis, if so is there a specific size of stamps I need or will any size stamp do, what do you think :)

As I understand it, general consensus is to not stamp the chassis, but keep the old stamped chassis section in a safe place as proof of the vehicles defunct chassis.

Others may have a different slant on this.

Cheers

On re shelling cars over the years when the good old police used to inspect them, we cut the original plate out and attached near the place it should be - you could see it was a new shell and the old detail was available. This is how we did it although neilly seems to also have a good idea.

No legal requirement to stamp it , have toyed with stamping mine with:- replacement for then the number.
As long as you have kept the receipt for the purchase you have the proof of replacement, I have a photo of cut up chassis [albeit is not mine as had already gave it to scrapman].

The original chassis had already had replacement dumb irons welded on and they was rotten out aswell so all I have is the vin plate, I will find out about the receipt as it was originally son's g/friends dad that bought it for all of us to rebuild to sell for son and g/friends wedding which since then I've acquired :)

This is all getting a bit suspicious - I am not getting involved!

I do have the log book for it in my name if that's what you mean, and the last owner owned it for the last 30 years and was off the road the last two years before son's g/friends dad bought it, since buying it we have replaced the chassis with a new galv chassis and going through the motions of doing a rebuild :)

Official advice is not to stamp (technically illegal if you're not registered to do so), keep proof of purchase of new chassis, cut out and keep old number and keep proof of destruction of old chassis.

I doubt many have all 3 and it sounds like you might struggle.

The rules don't apply well to vehicles with a separate chassis leaving grey areas but ATM the onus is on authorities being able to demonstrate a vehicle isn't legit. If it changed to the owner being able to prove it WAS a lot of us would have problems.

Proof of purchase of a new chassis is probably the most important preferably with some evidence of a destroyed chassis.

Without them I'd be tempted to stamp
