In the same month that Evo performance tested tuned Smart Roadsters, Land
Rover Owner International tested tuned Land Rover Defender Td5s.
And, with the exception of the bike-engined Evil Twin, all the Smart
Roadsters - those sporty coupes - were out accelerated from 0 to 60mph (the
only directly comparable time from the two sets of tests) by Defenders with
only a re-chip and larger intercooler.
The Evil Twin, which accelerates to 60 in 6.7 seconds, has 180bhp and 80lb
ft max power/torque whilst the tuned Defenders require 195bhp and 310lb/ft
to reach 60 in 10.3 seconds though.
But at least the Defender would be able to drive over the Evil Twin if it
was cornered.
