slipped liner ???

may seem a silly question but when i take the head"s off my disco 3.5 would it be obvious to tell if the liner had slipped or not it runs on 7 cylinders luvely, little noisey tho . number 1 is filling with water so could just be head gasket

No it won't be obvious to the Human eye. A compression and or sniff test is the only way to tell whether you're engine is knackered, or not.

Slipped liner on a 3.5 is very very rare. I've never actually heard of one.

The liners should be totally flush with the deck face, otherwise its slipped

Only really a 94mm problem though, you have the best RV8!

morning the engine is number 27G , going by the info ive found out , its one of the first v8 s put in a disco after there launch (registered 24 11 89 its within the first thousand made)and a lot of people seem to mention slipped liners , no one realy mentions head gaskets

Its really a 3.9/4.0/4.2/4.6 problem.

As I understand it, when they bored the 3.5 for the larger sizes the gap between liner and water became very small- and cracks easily when overheated. Poor casting made it worse. This happened to my 4.0 P38, which is why I deliberately looked for a 3.5 when I bought my disco.

Head gaskets do go on RV8's, especially one that's 20 years old. Hopefully the question for you will be whether to go for tin or composite gaskets. Good luck.

thank you for that now all i got to do is compression test it see what its like then striip it . as for the gaskets theve been hanging on the garage wall since june last year ! lazey bugger me is at times
