Guys sorry to be a tad OT here, but I'm after info on a Range Rover LPG
conversion.

I have done a google search but there's nowt like the hosses gob, as it
were. I have been offered a RR by my Bro and I fancy it, but not at 15mpg.
I had thought therefore of an LPG conversion. Anyone done this? Any tips or
pointers of things to get or avoid?

I am worried about range - my work takes me 200 miles there and back many
many times and I dont want to have to fill up every day (M3 M25). I don't
mind every other day, but a range of 200 miles is a bit off.

Anyone any thoughts?

David

Naturally aspirated or injection ? I did my own 3.5l V8 carbed engine,
but I'm not sure I'd do my own injected engine.

Also try uk.rec.cars.fuel.lpg where half of AFL hangout occasionally
anyway !

If it's injection, go for an SGI lpg system. NO power loss (as no mixer to
restrict inlet diameter), better economy than a vapourmix system and NO
airbox-damaging backfires. I have converted many, many rangies now, my
equipment of choice is the OMVL Dream 21 (either N or P variants) and I've
had no issues other than the normal LPG gripe of inaccurate gas level
indications, for which there is not a lot that can be done. As to range, how
much of the boot space can you afford to lose to lpg tanks?? You could have
twin 90ltr tanks (72 ltrs lpg each), giving a range of around 440 miles, but
with very little boot left. If it's a classic, you could have 2 x 40ltr
tanks (32 ltrs lpg each) where the petrol tank sits, and another 2 x 36ltr
sill tanks (holding 29ltrs each), giving a total of 122 ltrs lpg with a
range of 375 miles and an empty boot. This would be a very expensive
conversion though, 4 gas tanks and a replacement 6.5 gallon petrol tank as
well.

It would an' all. Probably getting on for a grand just for the tanks...

I've an idea I've seen 40l sill tanks advertised. The latest disco has twin
36s, for some subtle reason one always shuts off on the fill valve before
the other.

If anyone is thinking of doing that conversion, then I just happen to have
those 4 tanks sat in the garage, the 2 sill tanks are on mounting frames
ready to bolt straight in, and are in good condition having spent less that
12 months on the vehicle, and the 2 rear tanks are brand new still in the
wrapping, coz I never got round to fitting them. All complete with
multivalves.
