Hello everyone, I am hoping someone can at least point me in the right direction here, I have a 1992 Discovery and up and around 90 to 100 kph the steering wheel gets the shudders. I have only just purchased it, it was real bad and on looking at the steering colum one bolt was missing and the other was loose, I have fixed this but I can still feel the shudder though nowhere near as bad. What I would like to know, does anyone know if this model has an inherent problem in its front end somewhere. thx

- followed by steering swivels and ball joints. There should be a steering damper laying across the axle, if you haven't got it, it's worth getting hold of.

You'll need to go through everything and eliminate the bits that are ok. Start with tyres and wheel balancing. Could be something as simple as a lump of mud stuck in the back of the wheel. Then check all the balljoints and bushes for play, again a cheap fix if you find summat wrong. Then move on to the swivel housings as if you haven't found the problem yet it's likely to be in there in the form of worn bearings etc. If the swivel ball itself is ok you can get a refurb kit for about 15 quid a side so shouldn't hurt the old overdraft too much.

I just fitted new track rod ends and had the same problem, had it retracked and it its back to normal.
I thought i had it right but it was out,you cannot beat the right tracking.
I used a drive over track adjuster, close but not enough.

Cheers for the replies all, I live out of town but I am going in tomorrow, I plan to take the 2 front wheels with me and get them balanced, as much as I am hoping it is I have feeling thats not the problem. Once that is done I will go through your suggestions. Thankyou.

Ive got the wheels balanced and so far it seems to have addressed the problem, I honestly thought I would not be lucky enough fot it to be as simple as that. It is booked in for a roadworthy test for Tuesday so if there is an underlying problem it should be found then, but fingers crossed. I am also getting wider tyres for it next week, I dunno the size off hand but it has on it what I assume are the standard tyres my new ones will be 3 cm wider so it should help too. Once again thanks. :)
