Short term bulkhead fix

This is gonna come across as a silly question, so try and be nice.

I have searched, and no mention of this - probably for good reason!

Basically my bulkhead has some fairly serious rot, which was going to be replaced this summer. Unfortunately time was a lot less than I expected, and since i'm moving down south on Thursday, I can't really have it in pieces 200 miles away.

With the recent rain it's still pouring through the bulkhead, so was looking at a way to patch it before doing a bulkhead swap, over christmas maybe. I've got another bulkhead to go in, to it's not that I'm gonna be cutting out however I patch it.

To the question:

How stupid would it be to use silicon sealent to try and fill the holes, and stop my feet getting wet?

I've checked and it's not flammable, but i assume i've missed something...

Haha I did the same boss but not footwells mine gone underneath windscreen. it fine only a land rover! My b/head is 50% rot 50% tiger seal. Getting rid of in year so can't be flagged changing or plating. The drivers side is alright, passenger side is compltley gone! It's just outside layer so hasn't gone through inner pannel. Yet! Shud be ok on footwells it shudnt melt or catch fire!

Also mite be useful if its rusted out. For MOT any rust within I think its 10 or 12 inches of the brake servo is instant failure so check ya b/head in the engine bay!

Give it a try - what's the worst that can happen?

Just make sure clean (grease free) and dry - meths works a treat!

Won't be pretty. but make sure loads of silicon overlapping the holes - this is not the time for butt joints!

Luckily the majority of the visible rot is on the passenger side. It didn't get mentioned at MOT in April, and hopefully new bulkhead will be in by next MOT.

I started adding some earlier in the day, as I had the silicon already for resealing some fo the joints in the roof. Hopefully will have fixed the leaks - I guess I'll find out when it next rains!

I used body filler to temporarily fill my bulkhead, then some nato green over the top to seal it up.. It was only for 6 weeks though.
