It is a land rover engine used in 35cwt twin wheeled Sherpa vans and used a lt77 gearbox. Slightly more powerful and economic than a 2.25 diesel.---BB

It depends if you are talking about the Sherpa or the LDV series.I might be wrong, but I don't think they put a 2.5 in the Sherpa, but it was fitted in the LDV 400 series. Some came with a 2.5 Peugeot diesel with a turbo and some were non turbo........leave these alone, they are gutless. The later vans (Convoy's)were fitted with the Transit 2.5 engine and if you are extremely lucky you may even find a V8 version, which a lot of Ambulances were fitted with.....hope this helps......flyboy2

I have the very same engine, its the same as the 2.5N/A which is the 15J, it has one main difference, the timing belt front cover is a tin cover, which means the timing belt can be changed within 30minutes! It was put into taxis aswell, reason for the quick timing belt change.

Its a good engine, they put it into taxis because of this, nice mechanical fuel injection, it will run to hell and back without any electrics!

nothing wrong with that sherpa engine. used in plenty of vehicles. the quick change timing belt mod is well known amongst the taxi lads.
good luck with it.
