I have a 1998 300 TDI CSW that is due a 60K service,
As I have just moved to a village between Barnsley and Wakefield, I am
looking for recommendations of any independent garages that can service my
Defender.

Any info appreciated.

Hello - small village between Wakefield and Barnsley - Haigh?

Warren is the God of land rovers, but a bit of trek to London Road,
Sheffield.

Have used Total Discovery at Wombwell, but didn't stay long. Too
eager to do stuff on the cheap.

My lawyer has an S3 and has good things to say for Simon Services up
in Normanton.

However, if it's general servicing rather than 'specialist Land Rover'
you are in luck. Drive into Darton and go see Ian at the Robert
Thomson garage (it's the Murco petrol station). He's a proper
mechanic, and it seems to rub off on the young lads there too.

Chap at work just got quoted £250 at the Ford dealer for new calipers
and brake overhaul. Ian stripped, cleaned and rebuilt them for £23.

Right - I have an offer in on a house about half a mile from there.
Nice spot.

You're pretty handy for both Simon Services and Darton from there.
