Hi all,

I'm looking at buying a service kit for my 02 TD5 90 and wondered if anyone has got any advice on which make and where to buy??

Are "Britpart" service kits okay and as good or better than LR genuine parts, or is there another/better make.

Many thanks again troops. Really helpful forum.

Bearmach stuff is usually quite good, but then i would say that.

The main problem with Britpart is that they wont admit when their products are at fault and just keep selling till they run out of that batch - then they might look for another supplier if they have had enough people moaning at them

Bearmach will exchange or refund without hassle

TD5
OIL FILTER LPX100590 £2.29
ROTOR FILTER ERR6299 £5.56
AIR FILTER ESR4238 £3.06
FUEL FILTER ESR4686 £9.28
ROCKER GASKET ERR7094 £9.20
SUMP PLUG WASHER CDU1001L £0.20

All good make ;)

Britpart are absolute crap - dont bother with their parts at all.

Bearmach have been very good in my experience, dnt know about perkins, dnt they make engines?

As for genuine, service items like that arn't made by LR, they buy them in and badge them.

Get good coopers/fram/Mahle etc filters, or even K&N, they make good oil filters too (i can't afford one now though!)

mate i work for guy salom land rover and i would go genuine mate i just did 36 k on my td5 defender and i did it all including oil for less than £60

I put some Britpart oil filter and fuel filter in, after 2 days I changed them
for the genuine parts, the fuel filter seemed to slow down the top speed.

genuine are obviously superb quality, however the genuine filters will be made by a company like Mann Hummel, Mahle, Fram/Coopers etc so don't be too afraid of using them

steer clear of brit part, there are just too many stories of problems with them for there to be nothing wrong with them

you will never hear of many if any problems with the three brands i've listed

oil is an important factor too especially for the TD5

5W-30 semi or fully synthetic i think the minimum spec is A1 B1

Shell Helix F 5W-30
Mobil Super FE special 5W-30
Motul 8100 Eco Energy 5W-30
Fuchs Titan XTR 5W-30

these oils are all approved for the TD5 and far exceed the minimum specs

i'm also a big fan of engine flushes so consider putting one of these in and idling the engine before you drop the old oil out
it'll keep your new oil cleaner for longer. The best ones are Forte and Wurth but Wynns ones are more available to public, might be worth looking into.

hope it helps
