Hi everyone
New to this site and my first post. I need some help from you good people. I am right now banging my head against the wall because I can't choose between a Series lll or a Discovery. A series 3 I believe is simple to maintain and fix in fact I've been told that if you can do Mecano then you can fix a series 3 and in my opinion a proper Land Rover. I know that they are thirsty and not exactly a comfy drive but I love them.
But now my search has been swayed towards a Disco simply by the fact that they are more of a family car with the same umph of a series 3. I am a family man and I like the 28 MPG, 80 MPH and a few mod cons. But the question to you lovely people is, are the Discos just as easy to work on as a series 3 and in your opinion which should I go for? I wont be going off road with it but if I see an opportunity to do so then may. But I want a Land rover of some description because they seem easy to work on and I need a good towing vehicle for my various trailers.
Please give some kind of feed back to which one I should have, good and bad I love the Land Rover but which one Series 3 or Discovery I just don't know !
Many thanks to you all for your help and I will keep in touch.

I agree with james the disco tdi200 & 300 are quite spanner friendly and its more refined than a series, but the bodys have theyre problem areas...good luck let us know what you get...we love piccys:)

the disco tdi is the best allrounder. as stated above, more car like than a series. and 30 mpg too. (tdi).
plus you can buy an old disco for the same money as a series now.

Hi
Thanks everyone that has replied it is very much appreciated and it seems to be a disco tdi that I should get and I'm pleased to read that they are spanner friendly I think that is what I needed to know more than anything because I don't want it at a garage with labour bills every week I have some basic mechanic knowledge and I want to do the work myself.
Thanks again everyone for your prompt reply and I can't wait to show you some pics as soon as I get one.

Just remember 200 tdi and early 300 tdi are the easiest for an amatuer to work on. Later 300tdi has a lot more electronics and wiring and will be a major headache and a lot more expensive to do work on when it gives trouble. The simpler the better.------BB
