Series III re chassis

Greetings.... i have a small issue which i hope someone could set me straight.
I have just brought a 1971 swb and intend to restore to a solid work horse. She only needs a couple of outriggers but i have now got the thought of changing the engineto a transit as with the current state of fuel prices i heard you can get 40 + mpg in a series. Would the montego 2lt be better? I know i need to buy the conversion plate and am fairly happy with spanner work but are these easy swops on a series? If i decide to renew the chassis is it worth sticking to a new one or refurbing the original? Cheers all.

The Perkins prima (Montego) engine is a very common swap and there are loads of blogs, & threads on this conversion. I've only seen a couple of disussions on fitting a transit engine. So don't know how easy that swap is.

According to LRO its an easy swap, bit tappy but you can get 35+mpg if its a decent lump. Not sure where you get the conversion plate from tho

Yer don't get 40mpg out of a ford engine when it's in a tranny so why would it do that in a Landy

I am only quoting what the feature said in LRO.

thr trasit engine swap is a fruitless exercise. you might as well swap for a 2.5na as the transi is a gutless piece of ****. that said, if you want to do it, its an easy swap and the conversion plate is available from steve parker

Was that in the q&a bit? or that article on the guy with the 2a 88" with a lawn mower buisiness.

If the latter, he said 35 mpg ish, when empty on a run. I think he changed his gearing a little too to get more out of it. Cant remember.

If yer gonna go to the bother of changin yer engine a 200tdi is the way to go
