Hi all,

I had a 109 2.25 petrol once, as a project, no time/money so I sold it. Anyway I've always wanted a 109 pickup/cab, but with some modernisation (sacrilege!).

I need the vehicle for carting crap around, and towing my race car. I presume the Landy will make a good towing vehicle, especially in lwb format?? Or would the SWB be better? I intend to make a hard cover for the back end to keep stuff secure.

I was hoping to fit a modern (LR) TDI engine into one for a bit more power, and some better economy I'd have thought? I'm looking for some combination that will make my motorway journeys easy, so taller gearing/diff/whatever. Its about 300 miles to Santa Pod for me and my current car (2.5 Omega) does it easily, I'd hate to regret going the LR route, but I want to sell the Omega and always wanted a truck. American ones are too thirsty so I'm hoping I can figure something out with a 109. Can anyone tell me of a tried and tested conversion please? Or do I have to come up with something myself?

Thank you

well tricky question in fairness, but i suggest you try by getting a half decent 109 and have a pop at doing what you want. decide if you can live with the steering and driving position etc, then modify it to suit.

i have got a 2.5td fitted into a long wheelbase series and that goes rather well, 200tdi would be better though as its more reliable and more powerful. mate it upto the 2a box as these are strongest and be gentle or else we shall have to discuss fitting defender axles/box in order to cope with towing loads. and at that point you should buy a defender frankly.
