I have just fitted recoil seatbelts to the 1974 series 3 and have put the recoil unit behind the seat bolted to the bulkhead as in a 90 but because the tub is shorter in an 88 the seats wont go back all the way.
I have seen a bracket on a couple of later models that bolts to the bulkhead top behind the seats in the rear tub but I can't find a part number anywhere. Does anybody know if this might be a genuine part or will I need to knock one up myself?
thanks

I have mine bolted to the rear side of the bulkhead. I made my own bracket using a piece of heavy angle iron. So one side bolts to the original static belt fixing on the top of the bulkhead and then the emerita reall bolts to the angle iron and sits on the rear side of the bulkhead.
Only thing you have to be careful with it loading as it is easy to hit the seat belt when putting things in the back.

Thanks, yes I was thinking something along those lines as long as I can bolt it in securely and the belt is free running it could probably go anywhere. The ones I have seen mean the reel unit is at an angle but I think they work best if kept upright. They do lock in position if they are upside down......

Mine are at an angle but I have a soft top so the shoulder mount is not as high as in a hardtop. I would have thought in a hard top the angle would only be slight. You could also move them to mount on the bulkhead nearer to the side so it is virtually straight. I used the original bolt hole.
One of my seatbelts I bought new by sercurecon and has an angle setting on it will function properly if not upright. The other came out of an old Skoda I stripped for banger racing and just happens to work at an angle without locking.

I have a soft top...bolted mine to the tub top rail...on the upward face...get the units angle is important or they will lock up.

The one with the rivets on the angle plate only hold the unit on the correct angle...take little weight.
