Series 3 exhaust

Gradually repairing previous owners bodges. taken off the narrower silencer and tailpipe (all one). Replacing with new correct item. Question is, does the tailpipe exit to the rear of the vehicle behind the spring shackle or in front of the shackle above the spring. it's a lwb with rear mounted fuel tank.

I believe it goes behind the spring shackle rather than through the spring. However I have a swb so am happy to be corrected.
