Hi Folks,
I noticed a new quirk a couple of days ago with my Series 3 in that when I turn on my lights, rather inconveniently my dash catches fire!

Driving along the road I noticed smoke coming from behind the gauge panel, at first I thought it was the heater but after pulling over to take of the panel I noticed that it was the wiring to the lights that's was smouldering. Having replaced this the same thing is happening again, I assume I may have some sort of earth issue?

On the plus side and in typical Landrover fashion this fault has managed to somehow fix my broken horn :)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I doubt if it is an earth fault, more like a live supply cable fault. The insulation starts getting brittle on old wiring and all the vibration eventually causes a short. Or a spade connector has come loose and is arcing to earth. The burnt wires should point you in the right direction to finding the culprit
