Series 3 Diff lock?

How easy and costly is it to fit the necessary components to enable diff-lock or similar to allow all wheels to turn together?
 
the s3 (unless its a 2wd ex raf special lightweight) dont have a center diff when 4wd is engaged the front and rear axles will turn at the same speed the only way to make the wheels lock along an axle is to fit an airlocker, a kam lock(electronic difflock) or a limited slip diff (will lock the axle when one wheel spins faster than the other)

That's anwered it then. I need to lock each axle to get all 4 wheels turning to gether and the best traction. I think those airlockers are expensive though! How much better are those systems you describe above at generating traction?

What do the later Defenders and Disco's have these days?

Disco's and defenders have a central difflock that locks both axles but not the wheels on those axles. Unless your planning some extreme offroading then you won't need difflockers on the front and back axles, unless you've got lots and lots of money to burn. Basically with a def/disco you have the same difflocking as a series 3 but permanent 4wd. whereas with a series engaging 4wd also engages difflock

I would have liked to have tried it if it was a cheap option but its not so i'll stick with what i've got! I'd say i do extreme green laning and often get stuck trying to climb super wet grassy hills!

Discos and defenders struggle on wet grass as well. change your tyres to MT's and see if that helps.
