series 2 (original 2.0 rover diesel engine) injector pump - no fuel

I have had big problems with diesel bug clogging up fuel lines,tank etc. I've cleaned eveything out, added biocide to the fuel and fitted a new filter. I've now got fuel to come through one of the bleed valves on the CAV injector pump. However, I can't get it come out of the second bleed valve. I've loosened the injector pipes but even after temporarily fitting an electric pump to put some whoomph behind the fuel it still won't play ball. First thing I want to be clear on, the engine doesn't need to be turning over to get fuel out of that 2nd bleed valve does it?
Any suggestions please?

The pressure from the lift pump when you manually operate it’s lever is more than enough to fill the injector pump and force fuel and air out of both bleed valves. Make sure the lift pump is off the cam lobe and has full swing. Try turning the engine half a turn if you think it’s lever travel is limited.

Take the suspect bleed nipple completely out. Just in case the slot is blocked.

The kill lever works by cutting fuel when you pull the knob. Not sure if it’s necessary but try it in the run (down) position. I’m sure I’ve bled mine with the kill knob pulled out.

Not sure having the injector pipes loose is necessary as the back pressure may actually aid bleeding.

You can’t turn the engine over with air in the lines so no, it isn’t a requirement.
My money is on a blocked bleed valve or a blockage in the pump.

OK thanks. I'll try reconnecting the injector pipes - I've waggled both the stop lever and throttle up and down many times, and also taken the bleed nipple out of the pump (and poked a bit of fuse wire in the hole) but sadly to no avail. It's the nipple on the squarish part of the injector pump that isn't bleeding. The one on the round body of the pump is fine.

Yes I think it must be a blockage in the pump. Before I go to the hassle and expense of taking it off and having it reconditioned again (I had it done about 5 years ago) I wonder if I could pump some sort of cleaner into the pump - by allowing the diesel that's already in there to bleed out of the one nipple which is clear?

The nipple that isn’t working is the important one. The other rarely takes much pumping. Even a tiny bit of air in the bad one and nothing gets through to the injector pipes.
You could try a flush with something but remember there are O rings in there so nothing too powerful.
