SAE 20 oil

The dampers on the SU carburettors on my V8 need SAE 20 oil in them, I
haven't been able to find any oil that says it is SAE 20 in the local car
places. A lot of multipurpose oils do not indicate what viscosity the oil
is. Does anyone know what commonly available oil is rated as SAE 20?

Hello Liam

You could use oil used inside the front shocks (dampers) of motorcycles they
come in all sorts of strange weights - pop into any good motorcycle parts
shop and you will see what I mean. In the past I just used ordinary engine
oil and I doubt anyone would be able to tell the difference.

Just use ordinary engine oil, not worth getting a specific oil, its
only a couple of spoonfuls. You wont find straight engine oil other
than at specialist supplying the classic car market, most ordiunary
oils these days are around 15W40.

In case you weren't aware, don't use synthetic oil in your V8, they
prefer a nice thick oil like Difflocks Silvex classic

just use ATF or DEXRON automatic transmission fluid thats perfectly ok
to use and is around 20 grade ..

i used it for many years in range rovers .

you can also use 3in 1 oil but thats expensive way of buying it .
other than that look on ebay uner lathes and buy some machine oil that
various people sell on there for oiling lathe beds etc
