Hi all
My 2A is still on a dynamo, it works just fine and I've no plans to change it. Sure I know you can get alternators that look just like a dynamo, but why fix what's not broke? The biggest call is the headlights but I'm not going to be doing much night driving, if ever!

Is there any problem in adjusting the control box to the higher 14.7v to charge a modern battery? I don't want to over cook it, given it was never designed to go that high.

On the subject of the battery, what about this? Looks like it should fit

I would say if it works leave well alone, as for battery fit the cheapest 069 you can find locally, after all its not like there are huge electrical demands on it.

When i last set it 20+ years ago, i probably didn't do it right, i was a lot more electrically naive so it could be now 'set' to any voltage, maybe 13.2-13.5 which will kill a new battery
Take your point in the battery but cheaper ones aren't 'much' cheaper plus if you have a bigger reserve to start with, should last longer as it's not being dipped into as deeply?

Aim for 14v and you will be fine, my tdis (with tweaked alts) run around 14v, and the d3 has run 15.1 volts pretty much all the time for the last 7 years.
My s2 was dynamo when I first got it, when I fitted tdi I went alt, removed charge box, but made all new connections behind the mounting bracket just in case I need to go back one day.
