disco1 1998.i have oil leaking out of the rocker cover.have changed the rubber gasket twice and tightened down the bolts as hard as i can get them.do i need a rubber gasket sealer as well as the gasket or are the bolts working themselves loose on there own making the oil seep out.cant see what im doing wrong:confused:any advice welcome.thanks.

if u have tightened the 3 nuts up too tight that could be why. you could of nackered the threads. if i remember correctly there only meant to be tightened to 42 lbs pressure on a torque wrench.

ouch.

yes, lightly lightly not tightly tightly! could have warped the cover as its only light.

could also be the gasket, poor quailty ones are renouned for being ****e and sometimes even Genuine does not seal. An extra bit of gasket sealer would probably help, but check the cover is not warped 1st and clean the surfaces thoroughly.

Tighter is not always better, it's like wheel nuts, too tight they WILL fall off, the acorn nuts should be 5NM, then angle tightened a further 25° - some manuals say 10NM - I stick with 5. The seal will then stay the shape it is meant to and seal up.

Also, get those acorn nuts loosened off ASAP or you will end up with stripped head pedestal stud holes - common problem when the studs are horsed down - it's only an alloy head!
