Hi all,
Seems a fairly common problem with Freelanders of a certain age, the reversing lights have stopped working and the rear wiper does not engage when in reverse.
The wiper works normally on the switch.
There is power to the switch on the gearbox, but none at the bulbs.
Is this likely to be the switch, an earth fault or is there a relay in the circuit that could have died?
This has all happened after the clutch was replaced, which will have disturbed the switch etc.
Many thanks
Mike

Now I'm confused, on Thursday evening there was something in excess of two inches of rain, meaning over six inches of standing water in places.
After driving through this, when I got home I realised the reversing lights and rear wiper were now working again! :drum:

So, problem solved :D

As an aside, have you noticed the size of bow-wave the Freelander puts up? IT'S HUGE. I'm surprised that almost every other vehicle on the road - including buses don't displace as much water.

And as it dries up, so the reversing lights and rear wiper stop functioning again!
Now I'm even more confused. I think a replacement switch unit for the gearbox is the place to start.

Funnily enough I have a 3 door 1.8 petrol, reverse lights work and rear wiper works with the switch but when I'm reversing the rear wiper works all on it's own! Is this maybe a safety feature or has my freebie developed a mind of it's own?
