Retread Tyres

Nothing wrong with retreads.

I have had two sets of Grizzly Claws, awesome tyres for mud etc but i found that over time the walls would split in a big way. If you throw your vehicle around harsh on the tarmac the lugs can fly off and they tend to crumble. Driving carefully i lost roughly 1mm per 1200 miles.

Bought a 90 tdi with colway MT's and to be honest they were good! Went to buy some more and you can't get them anymore!

So now bought some Insa Turbo Dakar which are almost identical to BFG MT. I was going to buy Special Track but with the landy mainly being used by the Mrs on tarmac i went for the MT. They are really good tyres, not wearing out too fast and have good road manners. I would recommend. You can buy for about £65 a corner.

for a tenner more you can get Khumo's

I stand by what I said...If you are gonna be using them a lot on roads dont get retreads...if your mainly playing in mud and ****e get whatever the fook you want...

anyone tried nankang tyres got em on mine 4 for £210 225x60x16
am well impressed

nankang are good tyres, i dunt personally rate coopers, ive got a set on my garage roof, one has an egg in the sidewall, the rubber is too soft compound a on em

thats fair comment from you yella if your mate had had the kumhos in the size i wanted i would of defently had a set !!! still the coopers i have now seem to be alright at the moment they do get a good hideing from where i go and what i do

just keep an eye on the sidewalls robin

yer, mine were cock ****e. delaminated, splitting... the ****. all over the road. even caused me to hit a wall!

now running BF too sirus diff motor. it goes in a straight line and everything! everybit as good as the grizzly's on lanes, but not as aggressive in dee pholes at pay and plays... but thats made up for on the road.

all depends on what sizes you buy though dunnit.

ST and STT's are getting good reviews so far. i have heard though that the american import tyres have stronger sidewalls over those manufactured in europe. guessing more ply?

I've been thinking for a while about maybe having a set of STT's; Coopers website Cooper tyres, 4x4 tyres, B.F.Goodrich, Cooper Cobra tyres lists some sizes of the ST / STT as being 10 ply rating.
Was out with Robint last weekend and the ST's he had on were quite impressive with what they coped with, especially for a 50/50 road/offroad bias tyre.

yer the sizes and price vary as does the ply. ranging from 6-10 in both the ST and STT. im on the look out for some 255/85's but these only seem avail in ST and not the STT.

The ST is also said to be designed between the BF AT and MT. which is prob what alot of people have been waiting for. we will have to see how many miles Robin gets out of his 1st

Seeing the ST tyre for real is a damn sight different to the pic on their website which I reckon dumbs down the look of the tyre.
Quite agressive look for a 50/50 tyre.
Robin says they are quiet on the road as well.
Off road, it was real noticeable that the tread did not clog as badly as the BFG AT in the mud. Lateral grip was good too.
But like you said, see what mileage he gets out of them.

I had scorpion ST's on when I had the Disco and they were very good on or off road.

You may laugh, but since I bought a set of cheap and nasty Colway MT's I have left the (what is now spare) set of Scorpion ST's in the garage!!
These will be listed on eBay soon as a part worn set.
I can honestly say that I will never have another Pirelli tyre again if I can help it, plus the rubber compound is maybe too soft for the roads round here and so they wear out too quickly.
I know the Colways are noisy on road (they get quieter above 80mph) but I got loads more feel through the steering and the Disco handles better on the local roads than when the Pirellis were on!
They get put through hell off road and are about half worn after 9000 miles, I'm well happy except that Colway went bust so its now a toss up between Insa Turbo retreads or trying out the Copper STT.

sorry to jump in on this thread, but new to the site and not sure how to post a new thread......i have a problem with my discovery: the ABS warning lamp, Traction Control warning lamp and the Hill Descent warning lamp have all come on at the same time. Is this a recognised failure mode for Discovery - it seems a lot of bad luck for all three systems to have a failure at the same time. Tested the car out and the brakes seem to be working perfect - no locking or anything.Could it just be an electrical failure of some sort? Any advice would be welcome..!
