Replacement rear leaf springs.

My Series 3 seems to lean quite a bit to the driver's side at the back. I have been told that a set of new rear springs would sort this.

Can anyone suggest which manufacturers to look at, and which to avoid? I have read on here to stay away from Britpart springs as they are apparently rubbish.

How much should I expect to pay for a decent set of new rear springs and shocks? I have seen the springs priced at anywhere from £80 to £400 for a pair.

I want to spend the minimum amount of money possible. My aim was to keep costs down with the free road tax and cheap insurance.

I am only intending on using the Series 3 for road use.

GB Springs every time for good quality "Handed" springs for a very reasonable price!!!
Paid £215 inc delivery for a full set of parabolicsc/w u bolts... probably a little dearer now as was over a year ago... handed springs ensure the unequal weight distribution is accounted for so she sits level
Great for on road and off road and really pleased with mine... the guy who runs it (sorry cannot remember his name (think it was Jonathan Stonehouse) was a damn decent fellow and certainly knew what he was talking about

I've just fitted these.

SPECIAL OFFER Series Land Rovers Parabolic Springs - SWB Rear 3 Leaf - PAIR

Cheap but seem very good quality. Car sits about 2" higher and no problems as yet.

I went for a set of GB springs. That was after returning 2 sets of Bearmach's as they were faulty.

I found that 88 lightweight rears were comfy on road and gave good travel on the rough stuff but too soft for heavy loads.

Thanks for the replies. The actual leaning doesn't bother me, I just don't want to get pulled over for a dodgy looking vehicle. Once you get pulled over they won't let you go without finding something wrong.

Just by coincidence, my mate sent me a link to this, they said "isn't that a Land Rover like yours?". It's really not my kind of music but there is a Series 3 in it at 00:30 seconds. This one is leaning to the driver's side even worse than mine is.

So is it safe / legal to drive when it is leaning or not?

If I am not driving what would be classed as a dangerous vehicle, then I would sooner not spend £100+ as well as my time and effort to fit the springs.

Before replacing you could try lubricating and retensioning. Brush loads of old engine oil thinned with a little petrol or diesel into the springs, leave to soak and go for a run down a bumpy road. Then loosen the shackle and bush pins and reset the axle to chassis distances.
