Hi
Has anybody replaced their standard radio with something else and how did you get the old radio out and the new one in?

I want to replace mine with something new, should be able to play mp3 etc.

Any ideas?

Thanks:)

My wife's 03 Freelander had a radio cassette, I replaced it with a JVC 10 disc multichanger which plays MP3's.
The radio cassette is released by inserting the correct size of allen key in to the hole at either side of the face plate and loosening the bolts.
The only thing I had to buy (£7) was an ISO adapter as the freelander was fitted with a different plug.
I fitted the multi changer under the front seat, it took about an hour of fiddling and making brackets but managed it without taking the seat out.
The cable is easily run under the carpet and under the inner plastic trim at the drivers door and up to the head unit.
Good luck

Just replaced mine with a Kenwood MP3 CD head unit. Great bit of kit even with the standard speakers. Also, you can change the illumination to green to match a Freelander dash. Cost me £49.99 off eBay including a free IR remote.

Depends on the age of your FL as to getting the head unit out. Pre-2001 you just use normal radio removal keys. Post-2001 (As Biggeeeee said) you undo two 2.5mm allen bolts in the holes in the front of the unit and it just slides out. Can be a bit of a fiddle getting the connector off (you slide it up then pull it off). Facelifted models are different again!

Hope this helps

Cheers

Hello, go down and pick up a radio from halfords UK, they have a free fitting service, have a look at some with blue tooth for your mobile as well, also remember that the UK radio service will go digital in 2012, so have a look at DBS radios as well,

Yes because you're gaylander is still gonna be on the road and in fine shape in 2012. And you wouldn't want the hassle of having to fit a new radio. to spoil 4 years of faultless repair free ownership.
