Hi, Before i ask the question, i know i have a Landrover and yes it`s supposed to be 4 wheel drive BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been told by a guy that if your landy is more often on road driving than off road, it is more econmical in fuel terms and speed/power wise to remove the front prop so therefore reducing it to a rear wheel drive vehicle and replace prop when 4x4 is needed.

So my question is has anyone tried this?
Is there any possible detremental effect to any working parts by removing prop. I.E. more wear to rear prop and diff due to increased drive as it is not shared with front diff?

You might think i`m nuts but with price of fuel if any saving can be made then it`s worth looking at.

So any reasonable opinion welcome.

Can't see it making a huge difference coz ter still turning all the gear with the exception of one prop, but the centre diff will have to be on and it int meant to be on all the time. This is known as Mondo Mode, and i think it's meant to be an emergency measure!

You will sill have all the resistances in place, and 4x4 running gear all turning, all you won't be doing is driving 2 of the wheels (which still cause resistance and need to turn!)
