I wonder if there is the basis of an idea here for LandyZone?

Whilst I do the general repairs myself I am not as adventurous as many on this forum. I am therefore always keen to know of the recommended Guys we go to (or Gals) when we need a special job done on our precious vehicle. I can't abide being ripped off and indeed am happy to pay good money for a quality job done.

My 2001 TD5 90 is in great nick, only 64K miles. But she has stood a fair bit in a previous life so the chassis is not great, and certainly the rear cross member could do with replacing. This is too big a job for me, and I have no garage space unfortunately (full of stuff!). I am looking for someone recommended who will not laugh when I try and get a quote. Someone trustworthy who if they phone and say - "I recommend doing the shocks and springs while I am at it" - you believe and say 'OK" (as long a price is reasonable).

I live near Godalming in Surrey. The localish main specialists price for the Surrey set in my opinion or just aren't interested in the work. I would be happy to travel and leave the car with someone for a few weeks, maybe even for a galv chassis. I am in no rush for this as maybe a bit of patching will do for a while but interested in replies to the thread and idea. To be honest - if there was someone that trustworthy and recommended, I would drive a couple of hours and leave the car there for weeks as I am lucky enough that it is not my daily drive.

thoughts? do we start a separate 'checkalandy' type thread?

with regards....

Pressbrake for the rear crossmember, hes in Essex and is well worth the trip.
The reason your loca boys dont want the work is quite simple really an old land rover is a piece of **** to work on! and rear cross members possibly one of the worst jobs.
