Hi all,
I'm new to this forum.
Just got my hands on an old Series IIa 109". I want to rebuild it to use as a work horse, pulling trailers etc.

I would like some advice on the best 'bits' to rebuild it with. Any advice on:
Engine
Gearbox
Axles
Springs

I was thinking the 200tdi as it has less wiring to go wrong ! and coil springs. Currently got the Salisbury rear axle.

Much appreciated.

Seems like you have the engine sorted as a 200tdi. Probably the best if you're unconcerned by originality.
I'd go for a series 3 gearbox just cos of the syncro on all gears. But plenty of people manage ok with early boxes. Just what you get used to I guess.
Axles? Salisbury is the best I think but just make sure they work ok. Might as well keep originals.
Springs- go for quality leafs. If you're mostly towing, there's not much point in paras.
(you can't have coils without losing vehicle Id. Actually, g/box, engine and axles cuts it a bit fine on the points I think)
