afternoon all.

the rear wiper on my 2001 defender is very slow on ignition and will not park, with the engine running it works but very slowly and parks correctly. Im guessing the brushes and armature are probably dirty and the unit needs a good strip and clean.

ive read loads of threads on here but cannot find a part number for the brushes. only details i find on the interweb is RTC198 but i think these are for the front motor. anyone know the part number for the rear brushes?

ta.

Try lubricating the wiper shaft first, they do tend to seize/slow down with all the rusty water that gets in.

Yes, like froghopper says but I took mine off and pulled it apart, ,the shaft was sticky and the armature housing was full of rusty water. An hour or so of stripping cleaning and greasing up got it working great. That was around 7 yrs ago and it's still fine. It don't park though and never has but I can live with that.

well.
was none of the above.
stripped the motor down and found one of the armature magnets had come unstuck from the body and been grinding on the armature. cleaned and araldited back in place. works a treat.
