Rear tailgate window won't stay up in freelander

Hi..love the site.first time posting. I have a 2004 freelander td4 5 door . I opened the back tailgate door today and the window went right down. When I tried to put it up using the switch above the handbreak it went up but went straight down again. I tried it several times with no joy..any ideas folks. I have had a look at the regulator and it looks fine. Could it be a faulty switch or a faulty tail gate handle. It had been making a beeping sound when I opened the car lately.any help would be much appreciated. Thanks
