Hi all,
New to the forum, owned 3 Defenders now got a decent 300 Tdi which I'm doing various bits of work on. Acquired this one 2 months ago with a cheap set of LEDs fitted all round. Needless to say after a week's ownership the rear stop/ tail light stopped working. On opening up found the previous owner had soldered all connections directly on to the lights and one had literally melted - nice. So I ordered some simple ordinary lights and bulbs and fitted them. Checked the taillights - yep working, lodged a brick on the brake pedal - yep working. However, didn't try the third option of taillights on an brake pedal push and guess what, they don't work together. So when I drive I can either have lights and no brake lights working, or no lights but brake lights work....
Thoughts gratefully rec'd.

If I've understood correctly...you've got the same filiment wired to both the brake and taillight circuit.

I'd suggest you have to re-check a lot of wiring 'cos if they've soldered and screwed one bit, it's 99% certain the rest is screwed too ...

Thanks both, upon further investigation (fingers got too cold in snow showers last night) it appears I got my wires crossed, literally. Mainly due to my incompetence, but also due to different colour of wires going in and coming out....all sorted for now thanks - until the next time.
