rear door lock

hi ive done a search on here but still not sure,when i try to open the rear door/tailgate the little knob inside goes down so it wont open could there be a spring missing ? theres nothing in the bottom of the door,i climbed in the back lifted the knob and pulled the lever to open it,ive just bought the car so not sure hoe long its had this problem also tried to turn the lock with the key but locked seized help thanks chris

this is due to either the central locking actuator or the spring. you can buy a set of springs off ebay relatively cheap or if its th actuator, go to your local scrappy and get one off a montego or a maestro hope this helps

I left mine like that! saves some scratter makin off wi yer tools and the like.

Just put the key in and turn it till the buttons fully up and the door opens with the handle.

yeah but at £300 for a 93 disco t&t i didnt mind a few faults....did i say a few ? ha ha......PLENTY

i had a similar problem with out disco, couldn't open the door using key or internal pull handle - removed interior trim, and purchase some springs of ebay.

springs arrived, removed lock, springs on lock fine. ebay springs not required.

but door back together, still couldn't open door, left it a week, then i completey stripped door lock including outside handle parts and noticed that everything seemed to be down to the handle outside being seazed(sp!).

squirt of wd40 in lock mechanism, and bobs-ya-uncle everything worked fine again.

Basically prise off the green oval badge on rear door handle - and squirt wd40 over lock mechanism. see if that helps

ok gary thanks for reply i will give it a spray 2mrw,but i think its the spring because when the door is open i lift the catch with a screwdriver and the outer handle releases it (if you know what i mean ) the lock mechanism inside the door looks complicated bars little white clips etc is it easy to strip and put back together ?

similar sort ot thing with my 300tdi i unlock it with the key but the rear button dose not pop up enough so i need to use the key to open it fully. any ideas?

hi craig from what ive read its the spring thats broke/missing ive seen them on ebay at £4.50

thanks chris i should really take the door cover off and have a look its been like it for about 6 months.

ok craig but be careful with the orange clips that hold the panel on they break for fun

yeah i took it off my old disco. i have a couple of mates that work in bodyshops they can get hold of them for me. thanks anyway
