I am getting a lot of rumbling from the rear diff. I have bought another p38 the same as mine colour and everything for spares. I have taken the rear axle out of the donor car and now need to buy the bearings and
other bits to recondition it. how can I tell which diff I have as there are showing two in the parts catalogue one with six cogs and one with four.

Your info says you have a diesel so you have a two pin diff. Talk of two cogs and four cogs worries me if you do not know how to rebuild a diff get someone who does to guide you. If you must try it get Timken bearings nothing else. You may then get away with using existing shims.

Oops I meant differential gears. cogs was old school, I have rebuilt diffs before but not on a range rover. I have the Workshop Manual so that should help.
yes I will get Timken Bearings, I have always found them to be the best. Cheers.

You will not find diff rebuilt in P38 RAVE. Think there are instructions in Classic manuals basically same thing.

By the time I added up the parts I wanted to fit, is was not much more to get a reconditioned one. So I did also went crazy
and fitted new wheel bearings, halfshaft oil seals, discs, discs brake calipers, pads and brake pipes. Its a good job I have got a pension. lol
Thanks for all the help. :)
