Ok - well, what do you mean by clunky? Is it just notchy where the
gearbox is still tight? 12000 miles is quite low for a Landy, they
don't feel run in until 20k!

Well oddly enough, low mileage is not one of the excuses that LR have
wheeled out so far - and I suspect that if that's all it was then they would
have been only too happy to use it.

Quite hard to describe accurately, but by 'clunky' I mean that I can feel
resistance and something "catching / vibrating" as I change up from second
to third gear. I suspect that, given half a chance, the gear stick would
quite happily bounce back to neutral rather than go into third.

I was keen not to skew any answers with my initial post, but what has made
me deeply suspicious of this whole affair were comments made by two of the
dealer's representatives:

1) " I wish I could tell you that the next box will be better, but I just
can't" ( but nor did he say that I was being unreasonable in wanting it
fixed - that role fell to LR themselves.....)

2) "I can't say much more, but a lead counterweight was removed from the
gear change mechanism recently and you are not the only person to complain"

All a bit odd.

The gear knobs on RRC used to be very heavy to ensure less effort was
involved in changing gear on the LT77.

Maybe the bean counters have been lowed to make another silly decision

Try moving the gear lever slower between gears and see if that is any
different.
