Also consider bleeding any air out of the system (fuel filter to injector
pump). Alfie used to be a bit slow off the mark and smokey until I realised
he was sucking air through a leaking fuel line. Once replaced starts much
better... just a thought.

Indeed on our Diesel Rangie this was the case... only sign was when the tank
was full it would weap when parked on a slope. Otherwise the leak was only
large enough to suck air in but not big enough unless the sort of pressures
associated with the above were present. I pin hole I Guess... and as long as
it's sucking air it's not going top leak.

Also the symptom in the above case was prolonged starting as it would take a
while for the fuel line to refill each time it was started... it was this
and the presence of air which lead to the running as you describe. One the
fuel line was full of fuel then all was well.

As the hole got bigger it started to run like a pig at idle , espcially on
decleration at junctions often resulting in a stall.
