tut. not nice. besides, much more satisfying if not necessarily more
reliable to do it manually. Estimate the time taken to send a bid from your
machine to ebay, subtract same from finish time, add a few seconds for
luck...

my purchase of the disco was banged in at about 10 seconds to go, by hand.
Loads of fun.

How would that help? Marks *max* bid was =A392, he got out bid end of
story.

I had to snipe my last 10 buys on eBay. Sniping for hot items is typical.

think those CD Manuals selling on eBay are in violation of Land Rover
copyrights?

my buddy wants to copy mine and sell copies at the local flea market but
here in San Diego 'sue-happy' is the word.

I do manual sniping as well, it is fun but to be honest it doesn't do
the heart rate that much good and when you have raised adrenalin your
body is screaming to RUN AWAY but you just sit quitely in front of a
computer screen...

At the end of the day highest (or earliest in the rare cases of equal
winning bids(*)) wins so if someone is prepared to bid more than you
then they are going to win.

(*) Which is why I never bid in round pounds or increments, it's
always my "max" plus +5 to 10% of the relevant increment.

yebbut, it's a buzz, innit.

that's wot you have doom or something on the pooter for anyway - you can let
off the steam by shooting demons.

or a thing called Painkiller - seriously good and realistic shoot-em-up.
Just been through it in easiest mode and with the odd use of god-mode to
work out how to shoot nasty monsters without getting killed and having to
reload the game.

If you like shoot-em-up things, this is pretty damn good.

Ah so you maximum wasn't *really* your maximum, if you'd placed your
*real* maximum in you may well have won.

You *might* have got it for around =A360, you don't know what his
maximum bid was. All you know is that his last bid had a maximum value
greater than, or equal to, the final value. His actual maxium bid
might have been =A392.01 and he'd have still own...

I do that on something when I'm not gonna be there to watch it, and leave it
get on with it. Otherwise I tend to hold my fire, as bidding high too soon
can put the price up, which if I'm buying, I don't like...

depends really on how many other people are after the item, and how much
they're prepared to spend.

I agree bids seem to attract bids, which is not good from the buyers
point of view. Hence I tend to manually snipe but will bit as late as
possible if I'm not going to be available at the closing time.

> depends really on how many other people are after the item,

Which you can never know, I've lost things in the past when the only
bids to appear have been in the last few minutes. I must admit I don't
like this auctions ends at X but in the free for all of the internet I
can't think of a workable alternative.

The auction conference on CiX used a timeout system, people placed
bids until there had been no more bids for a default of 48hrs the last
bidder then won. This worked in the "gentlemans club" of CiX but would
never work on e-bay, to many prats about to just keep things ticking
along for ever.

Nail, hammer head, if it is more than you, you loose.
